Mistakes made by different National Hockey League teams in the transfer agency: part 3
The mistakes that different teams made continued in the transfer agency and we will keep covering them as they happened. Some more of the mistakes were following.
Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia Flyers made one of the most interesting decisions when they made an offer sheet for Shea Weber. It was one huge offer sheet for $110 million for 14 years which showed how desperate they were to sign the defenseman.
Their offer was matched by Nashville Predators unexpectedly as it looked that one stage that the deal was final. Seeing their financial conditions, it would always have been a doubtful deal if Weber had joined them.
St. Louis Blues
St. Louis Blues took another strange decision when they decided to off-load their veteran player Jason Arnott. The 37-year-old forward has got a lot of experience and class behind him with more than 1000 NHL games and more than 900 points under his
belt.
He made an average first season with them in 2011-2012 as he scored 17 goals, 17 assists for total of 34 points in 72 matches, but his experience and class would have been something that would have helped Blues a lot.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay Lightning signed the Finn veteran Defenseman Sami Salo in a two year deal but this may not turn out to be a very good deal for them if the player is not successful in keeping his fitness.
38-year-old Salo, who celebrated his birthday on 2nd September, has not been able to keep himself fit in recent times and could only 30 times combined in both NHL and AHL.
Although he is an experienced campaigner with 761 games played in the league but Tampa Bay will have to keep their fingers crossed after signing the player for two years.
Washington Capitals
Washington Capitals made one of the biggest mistakes by not signing their forward Alexander Semin. The Russian player had been their kep player for last six years, ever since he joined Capitals.
28-year-old Semin scored 50+ points in 5 of the 6 seasons that he played with Capitals and was one of their highest scorers every season, scoring 72, 43, 79, 84, 54, 54 points in all the seasons from 2006-2012.
Semin has also done very well at International level as he has guided Russia to two Gold Medal wins at World Championships in 2008 and 2012.
