Some of my piano keys are going down and up,but not playing?

i have to hit it rather hard a couple of times,and then it plays but after about 2 or 3 seconds its back to the way it was.whats the problem?

There are a lot of things that could be causing that. I would look at the hammer to make sure it if okay. It is possible if your have an old piano that the felt may be degrading, and some debris from the felt may be preventing the hammer from hitting the strings at full force. Since you have a number of keys that are bad, I would suggest having a piano tuner look at it. If that is too much, I might try to vaccum the thing out.
