Some of the greatest undersized players in the NBA – Part 3
Dana Barros, Los Angeles Lakers
Dana Barros is undoubtedly one of the best point guards that the NBA has seen. Barros played for 14 years in the NBA during which the 5 feet 11 inches players emerged as a solid player in the league. Though he had a small frame to work around but this didn’t
stop him from performing excellently when it came to defence as well offence where he gave his competitors a very tough time.
If we talk about the statistics of this player, then we have him scoring 10.5 points per game, 1.5 three’s per game, 0.9 steals per game and 3.3 assists per game. Barros was one of the most productive players in the league and his hard work was rewarded
with an All-Star appearance. His extravagant shooting from the three pointer line earned him spot for competing in the three pointers shooting competition for four consecutive years.
Barros was rewarded with the most improved player of the year award in 1995 during which he also established a record which still stands of scoring at least one three points in consecutive games. The bench mark that he set hasn’t been reached by anyone as
yet and being one of the undersized players to hold the record makes it all the more sweet for him.
Brevin Knight, Charlotte Bobcats
Some of the problems that the less tall players in the NBA draft face are that they are very low in the draft pick. However, this wasn’t the case for Brevin Knight as he managed to crawl his way up and was the 16th pick in the 1997 draft. Standing
at 5 feet and 10 inches this raised a few eyebrows initially but with the skill and talent he has shown so far some say that the 16th number was low for him and he should have been up.
One of the true undersized players in NBA, Knight put the foot on the gas right from the very first season in the NBA. Knight’s quickness and active minded play enables him to come up with steals regularly. This extravagantly talented defensive player was
able to lead the league with most steals during his rookie season in the NBA. Not only this but he was able to convert them into chances for his team and was also was among the leaders when it came to assists and on several other occasions.
During the course of his 12 year career in the NBA, Knight was able to establish his position among some of the best point guards in the league. He maintains an impressive average of 7.3 points per game, 1.7 steals and 6.1 assists per game.
With the little frame that he had he was able to win the hearts of many fans around the NBA world and truly told the NBA world that size isn’t the only think you need to be successful it the determination and hard work which enables you to reach great heights
which he certainly did being among some of the most productive undersized players in the NBA.
