Some of the greatest undersized players in the NBA – Part 4
Avery Johnson, San Antonio Spurs
Among the smallest players to play in the NBA, Avery Johnson stood 5 feet 10 inches tall. Though after reading the first you would think that he lasted in the NBA for just a few seasons but he spent an amazing 16 years in the franchise which tells the importance
that he held.
Johnson was among was among some of the most productive players in the league in the position of point guard though the diversity in his game enabled him to play in any position. His size and the opponent’s size didn’t matter to him all he knew that the
Spurs had to win by all fair means.
His determination and commitment saw him winning a championship ring in 1999 as San Antonio Spurs were crowned as champions with an impressive and dominating season. One of the decent point guards in the game Johnson maintained an average of 8.4 points per
game, 1 steal per game and 5.5 assists per game. Johnson also had a great basketball foresight which enabled him to come up with such dominating performances. For all this, this little player is certainly regarded as one of the greatest undersized players
in the NBA.
Paul Millsap, Utah Jazz
Paul Millsap played for Louisiana Tech before he decided to move to the NBA. Millsap was among some of the most dominating players in the league and during his time in the Louisiana Tech he consecutively led the league for rebounding three times.
Though being one of the tall players standing at 6 feet 6 inches, Millsap wasn’t among the really tall men in the NBA. This is one reason that during the NBA draft he was the 47th pick but this encouraged him even further to show the NBA world
that he deserved to be higher in the pick.
Anyhow, Millsap managed to bag some impressive performance and so far in the current season Millsap has caught the eyes of many with his superb technique and productivity. Currently, he maintains an average of 16.7 points per game, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals,
7.7 rebounds and 0.8 steals.
This is just the beginning as he himself said and if he even continues to do what he has been doing so far than he can surely become the greatest in the business. However, talking about the present then he has made the Utah Jazz a little stronger given that
players like Raja Bell who are suppose to score chunks of points haven’t been able to do what they are suppose to.
Michael Adams, Charlotte Bobcats
An impressive and productive 11 year NBA career is what Michael Adams was able to achieve despite standing only 5 feet 10 inches.
During the 1995 season, Michael Adams was among the best and maintained averages of 26.5 points per game, 10.5 assists per game, 2.5 three pointers per game and 2.2 steals per game. This also earned him an All-Star nomination in the same season.
If we talk about his career average they weren’t too bad which are 14.7 points per game, 6.4 assists per game, 1.4 three pointers per game and 1.7 steals per game that enable him to create a slot for himself in the list of some of the greatest undersized
players in the NBA history.
