Chicago Blackhawks finally get its hands on the Stanley Cup after 49 years of hard work
Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup last year in what proved to be a very strong and consistent run by the team.
Hawks showed all season long that it can play no matter how big trouble they are in.
A lot was expected from them as they made their way into the Stanley Cup Finals. The sixth game of the Final began with Hawks having the chance of winning the Stanley Cup if it won the game.
The game was a closely contested one with the scores level on 3-3 at the end of regulation time.
Hawks went into the overtime, fearing that Flyers might score to level the series as it was Flyers' home.
However, this didn’t happen and it was Hawks that scored at 4:06 into the first overtime through Patrick Kane to bring home the Stanley Cup.
Hawks had to wait for a long time as they managed to win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961.
New York Islanders versus the Washington Capitals, 1987 play-offs
The first round of the NHL play-offs during the 1986-87 season saw New York Islanders up against Washington Capitals.
The series was heated up with both teams coming up with some superb performances during the course of the series.
Both teams were tied on 3-3 and the seventh and deciding game had quite a lot installed for the fans. The game proved to be a very entertaining battle that went into four overtimes!
Finally, it was Islanders' Pat Lafontaine, who scored the winning goal of the game to hand the series to Islanders as it moved on into the semi-finals.
