Some of the top players pull out of Monte Carlo Rolex Masters – Tennis News
Inform American, John Isner, joined the list of top tennis players who announced on Friday that they are pulling out from Monte Carlos Rolex Masters, the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 on clay courts this season.
Telling about his withdrawal from the tournament during an interview, Isner said, “I will go back home [to Florida after Houston] and work with my coach, Craig Boynton. I need to get in better shape if I want to do good in these
next two majors coming up and Masters events [in Madrid and Rome]. I need to be in better shape, put my head down, go back to work and get my body right.”
Placed at 10th spot in the South African Airways ATP Rankings, Isner is currently in Houston, as he is participating in the US Men’s Clay Court Championship. He defeated compatriot, Ryan Sweeting, in straight sets 7-6(1),
7-6(4) in the quarter-final on Friday.
The American is in the form of his life, as he has won some of the best of matches of his career in this season. He is also rising as a top contender for the French Open with his recent brilliant performance at the clay courts.
Isner first stunned world number three, Roger Federer, during USA’s Davis Cup tie against Switzerland. Then he grabbed his first win over a reigning world number one, as he upset top ranked, Novak Djokovic, in the BNP Paribas Open
semi-final.
Playing at the red clay of Monte Carlo Country Club last week, he toppled Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon to help USA conquer France in their Davis Cup quarter-final tie.
Earlier, Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet announced their withdrawal from the only non mandatory ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.
Gasquet’s coach, Riccardo Piatti, posted on his Twitter account that the Frenchman is pulling out of the tournament. He said, “Unfortunately that's how it is. Richard has pulled out of the tournament. He tried to recover, but it
still hurts.”
Ranked 17th in the world, Gasquet is recovering from a right shoulder injury. He was also forced to withdraw from France’s Davis Cup tie against USA.
Frenchman, Gael Monfils, also withdrew from the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters on Friday. The world number 14, Monfils, has decided to stay away from the event because of a side strain.
Like Gasquet, Monfils did not play any part during his country’s Davis Cup loss to America.
