  1. Hi there,

I happen to have passport application papers right here in front of me because we picked them up for my husband to renew his when we applied for our newborn son's passport a few weeks ago.  So, here is what you need to get a passport:

    1.  Proof of US citizenship... this can be a previous US passport (which would not work in your case, sadly), certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the city, country or  state with a raised, embossed or color seal (they won't accept affadavits, abstracts, photocopies or hospital registrations); consular report of birth abroad or certification of birth; certificate of naturalization (you!!!) or certificate of citizenship.

    2. Proof of Identity... this can be a current, valid Driver's license, government ID (state, federal or military), a current, valid, undamaged passport; your certificate of naturalization (issued within the past 10 years) or certificate of citizenship (issued within the past ten years).  They won't accept voter registration cards, military discharge papers, birth abstracts or social security cards.

    3.  Two passport photos (they have to be the right size and background to be accepted, so you might as well get them taken by passport clerks at your post office) - it costs $15.00

    4.  Payment... including a processing fee to pay to Passport services and an Execution fee payable to the Postmaster.  They take cash, check or money order.  Some places accept credit/debit cards.

For more information or to get in touch to ask specific questions about your certificate of naturalization/birth certificate, I would email the government directly at: NPIC@state.gov or call them at the National Passport Information Center.  They speak English and Spanish, and I'm sure you can get their phone number online.

I really hope this helps you!  I will enclose links to a few other sources that I think may have even more info for you.  Good luck!
