  1. breath it or eat it and it can cause cancer

  2. asbestos is dangerous in any form, it is made up of small fibers that can get into your lungs if you are exposed to it    will cause asbestosis, = cancer

if it is sealed in a glass, or clear plastic container, and not disturbed it should be quite safe.

White asbestos is the mineral chrysotile. This is the only asbestos mineral that occurs strictly as fibers, and the only one in the serpentine group. The others normally occur in other crystal forms, and they are in the amphibole group. I have a large collection of minerals and gemstones, and I keep them well protected from humans, and keep humans well protected from the minerals

    have a look in    http://groups.msn.com/AustralianGemstone...

  3. asbestos is fairly safe in rock form. its dangerous if airborne.

  4. Mineral Collection Specimens are perfectly safe as long as you take elementary precautions when handling and wash hands etc afterwards.

Generally in their Native state ores and minerals containing toxic elements are in very small concentrations and should not give rise to concern.

    Fix the glass and enjoy.

    Best wishes

  5. Don't touch the Asbestos, it is cancer causing.

Throw the lot out. Not worth the risk.

  6. There are two types of asbestos, blue and white. Blue is the more dangerous, but white asbestos is also to be avoided.

The current wisdom is that as long as the fibres are not friable and bound in another material they do not pose a significant health risk. However, I would add to this 60 years ago asbestos was considered non-poisonous, safe and it was used everywhere.

The only 100% safe situation is to zero asbestos. I would seal it in a plastic bag of some kind then contact your local council for advice on safe disposal.

  7. if your worryed simply get some automotive clear laqure and spray them...it will seal it..

  8. asbestos is safe until it becomes airborne so you should be ok if u leave  it in the  glass case try not to touch it and do not brake it or chip as then it will  become airborne an u risk inhaling it asbestos is in more places than people think so your rock is safe
