  1. Alloy wheels are automobile (car, motorcycle and truck) wheels which are made from an alloy of aluminum or magnesium metals (or sometimes a mixture of both).

If yours are made of mostly magnesium, they are "mag wheels".  They are lighter than steel, yet strong if you're looking to save weight to make your car go faster.  They are also a bit of a status symbol, and subject to being stolen.

Alloy wheels are also better heat conductors than steel wheels, improving heat dissipation from the brakes, which reduces the chance of brake failure in more demanding driving conditions.

Alloy wheels are more expensive to produce than standard steel wheels, and thus are not included as standard equipment on base models of many non-luxury vehicles, instead being marketed as optional add-ons or as part of a more expensive trim. Alloy wheels are included as standard equipment on higher-priced "luxury" or "sport" models, with larger-sized or "exclusive" alloy wheels being options. The high cost of alloy wheels have made them attractive to thieves; to counter this, automakers have issued wheel locks where one of the wheel nuts require a special key to remove.

  2. haha its just a type of rim. i guess you could get mag hubs..but yeah its just the look is called mags

  3. Mag wheels is slang for aftermarket/custom wheels. ie Crager etc.

Just do a search on yahoo and you will see that most companies call aftermarket/custom wheels MAG WHEELS

  4. mag wheels look just like this:

  5. "MAG" wheels is a slang term, once used to indicate the light weight magnesium wheels used in early drag racing. The term just hung around and is used to refer to aluminum  or chrome type styled road wheels. Mag wheels don't necessarily mean you have magnesium wheels, although you could, likely you just have some nice looking wheels.

  6. i think mag wheels are plastic spinning hubcaps, thats what we call mags here in tennessee

  7. it means it don,t have hub caps.

  8. Magnesium alloy wheels, or "mag wheels", are sometimes used on racing cars, in place of heavier steel or aluminum wheels, for better performance.

Most aftermarket wheels are aluminum alloy, but the old school guys call pretty much any wheel that is not steel or steel with a wheel cover or hub cap "mag wheels".

Similarly, some Americans call any carbonated beverage a "Coke" or a "Pop".

  9. ive heard people call all aftermarket rims an 'mag'.... personally i think of mag as short for magnesium, and chrome as chrome.
