The veteran trainer has taken out time to discuss the reasons behind his reluctance in employing strikers to his formation.
Spanish national team's head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 del Bosque, has expressed that different problems require different solutions.
The manager made the statement in regard of the formation that he fielded during his side’s title defence during this year’s European Championships in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032.
Spain became the first international side to win two consecutive European titles as they paved their way to triumph in the Euro 2012 this summer. The prestigious tournament saw the Reds outclass all other top European teams and forging a new record.
However, the World champions faced some criticism due to their overly defensive antics on the field. La Roja played without a striker during most of the tournament and usually employed a false-nine striker up front.
Cesc Fabregas was the man with the attacking duty as he was the false-nine striker. Not only did he attack, but also had to fall back play a little deep when it was required.
Del Bosque exclaimed that he did have a host of strikers to his disposal throughout the tournament, however, he rarely used them as there was little room for risk or chance.
While talking to reporters, the 61-year-old was quoted as saying:
“The day we played against Italy [in the opening group game], we had come up with that solution because of [Andrea] Pirlo. Perhaps it didn’t go all that well for us that day [in a 1-1 draw], but we improved as the tournament went on. In fact, when we played
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 won 4-0], we sent out the same starting XI as that first game.”
“We preferred to use a player who’d drop deep to link up and would play a part in creating attacks, but who could get in the box too. At the time we had our moments of uncertainty too. It’s not easy. I don’t think anyone should be certain that everything
they do is right. I question a lot of things.”
Del Bosque was given the charge of the Spanish side in 2008.
