  1. If you travel on a weekend fairly early in the morning - not long also what route you take.

The best place - to visit - depends on what you like - i.e. nightclubs, beaches, bars or historical sites.

I believe Barbados follows the UK in that Voting is 18 and drinking 16 (not sure about that one).

Hurricane season starts July, so most days will be beautiful with the short little showers every once in a while.

If you are coming to Barbados - check the websites there is a lot of information on Barbados.

  2. it really depends on the route you take, but as we say in b'dos, you can get to anywhere from anywhere(simply meanng that they are many different routes leading to where you might want to go)

Well as a local i know the places where you can get all the bargains but if you meean all the touristy places you can go on the mount gsy rum tour as someone already suggested, to harrison cave(if its back up by may), adventureland or safari island tours, the m.v habour master which does cruises i think every day and has a submarine and water slide

you can also go on the jolly roger 1 or 2 or a catamaran cruise and you might get to swim w' the turtles and fishies

I also like diving and snorkelling, my shop of choice is underwater Barbados but there are many others you could try

For shopping you could go to Cave shepherd or cute little tourist shops like the ones in Pelican Village, for groceries and the like i recommend any super centre(they can be found all around the island) but trimart has more reasonable prices on veggies

the weather in may, as it is all year round is HOT very hot, but a bit cooler than the traditional summer months

You must be 18 to vote, drink, legal age for adulthood

21 is the legal age to BUY alcohol and go to some clubs

16 is the legal age for sexual consent and a driving permit

    anymore qs email me...

  3. If you follow Queen Annes Highway from the airport to the north end of the island, it will take you about 2 hours.  Not because it's that far, but because the roads are narrow, and winding, and traffic is slow.  It's not like driving on the expressway here in the states.

Downtown Bridgetown is great for shopping, but the Mount g*y Rum Tour is great.  Off the beaten path is the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, which is really nice.  Don't expect a zoo like we have here in the states.  You walk a path with the monkeys and other animals out in the open.  Great experience.  Of course there are the touristy things but the best thing to do is to get a relationship with the first taxi driver you meet, tell him what you want to do, and let him fill in the blanks.

  4. The weather in May will be delightful.

    Enjoy)

  5. The highways in Barbados were never layed out to get to different places fast.....  They are like spokes on a wheel all pretty much start from Bridgetown in the far southwest corner of the island. So basically you have Highway 1 going up the west coast, and Highway 7 going along the South coast and the others Highways 2-6 all pretty much depart from Bridgetown in all other directions in-between Highways 1 & 7.....

Then you also have the ABC Highway which goes from the airport in the south, and it heads west and right before it reaches the outskirts of town (Right at the "Wildey fork") the highway shoots off the right and branches off to the North.....   So if you're in the eastern part of the island it isn't quite as convenient because you tend to have to head west first before you can head north.... Unless you know the roads in the interior enough to drive around.

I know that Barbados finished uploading a lot of the GPS information to the global providers and it is now partnered with Tripple A (AAA), so I'm not sure if all GPS devices yet can give you fully accurate driving directions around Barbados, yet.  But be rest assured it is getting there....

The other thing is traffic kinda bad.

Barbados has about 270,000 people on the island and I think it now has ~140,000 registered vehicles on the roads.  That's around half as many cars as- as there are people in the country.

I know it shouldn't take that long to navigate an island that is only 14 miles by 21 miles at it's longest point.  A.k.a 166 Sq. Miles (2x the size of Washington D.C.) but *shrug* it does....  Generally you just turn on your fav. CD and provide yourself with enough time.

As far as weather around may...  It is warm... pretty sunny there's every now and again it may break for a quickly passing "cloudburst" but the sun will be back in about 15-20 mins. After all the country does record over ~3000 hours of sunshine a year.

    Don't believe me?

    See the Google hits below.

The yearly average temps for Barbados are mid to low 70's to the high 80's.
