My sister has got an admission to one of Canada's universities for her master's degree. She has applied for her student visa from Canada embassy, now I have some questions:

1. Do they give the student visa for 1 year and does she have to extend it each year? or would they give the student visa for all the length of her study (2 years)?

2. Although she has the interest in the field that she has been admitted to she thinks that, she may have more interests in another fields, and she is eager to apply for a degree program other than the field of her bachelor's degree which has studied in her home country here. But the uiversity that she has been accepted in doesn't have such fields of study either in undergraduate or graduate studies. Can she go there with this student visa and from there apply for another university from the beginnig of her studies?

3. Does the university that she has been accepted in, get informed if she get her student visa?

4. If she applies for Permanent Resident visa from Canada at the beginning of her studies (she already has the 67 points of the permanent residency), how long later would she get her Permanent Residence visa?

  1. 1.  they will probably issue the visa for the length of study

    2.  if she is going to attend another school she will have to get another letter of acceptence from that school and get a new study visa - but that can be done from within Canada.

    3. Not sure on that.  I don't believe they will - it is up to the student to inform the school that their visa has been approved

    4.  Hard to say.  PR status can take a long time to process (possible over a year)  other times it can take 3-4 months.  All depends how back logged the processing department is at the time and if there are any problems or mistakes on the application that would require it to be sent back to the applicant for correcting.
