  1. Let's see...

The ships were of any of the following kind...

Barque: a sailing vessel with three masts, square-rigged on the fore and main and with only fore-and-aft sails on her mizzen mast.

    Brig: a two-masted square-rigged vessel, a brigantine.

Cutter: a one-masted vessel rigged with a gaff mainsail, topsail, headsails and usually a square topsail. The name is derived from their fast sailing.

The main reasons for traveling to New France were:

    1. Search for religious freedom (Huguenots often sailed from La Rochelle).

    2. Adventurous spirit....The need to "conquer" and colonise a new world.

The Indian tribes friendly with/to the french  were several... Algonquins, Hurons and others...

The non-friendly were most of the Iroquois nations...Seneca,  Mohawk, etc.

The following website will give you detailed information on the indian tribes, both friendly and not...
