1. Queen Elizabeth's husband is not considered King. Why is that? Did they get married before or after she was crowned Queen? Or does that have a factor?

2. Prince Charles is next in line but why are his children next in line and then Charles' siblings?

3. If Prince William and/or Harry had children of their own, wouldn't their children be next in line before Anne(or one of Charles' brothers)?

4. Why are people saying that Harry isn't Charles' son?

  1. 1.   Prince Philip is the Prince Consort.  They were married before Elizabeth became Queen.  That does not factor into it.

    2.  Because that is the Royal Lineage, the purest way..

    3.  Yes they would, e.g. Prince William's oldest child would be next in line.

    4.  Because that is a rumor, true or false, that has been going around, but if Elizabeth, Charles, and William all die and Wm has no children, Harry, the 'spare' would take the job 'cause the Royal Family consider him to be Charles son, and he probably really is...(he looks like Diana's side, but listen to his voice, much like Charles)

  2. 1. No, does not matter when she became queen.  In the Middle Ages, you would have been right. The husband of a queen became king.  There were huge issues with this when Bloody Mary became queen, with her husband being a Spaniard, and by the time of Queen Anne, it became a settled principle that the husband of a queen does not become king.

    2. Because the throne, like also all noble titles, always goes to the oldest son of the oldest son of the oldest son if possible.

    3. Yes, and William's children will take precedence over Harry.

    4. Not my problem (:-)

  3. The Royal line goes to the first born of an Queen and her husband or King and his wife. Then to the first born of that relationship and then to the first born. on down the line.

I have no clue as to the answer about Harry.

  4. 1. Phillip is not a king because if he was he would outrank Elizabeth

    2. Prince Charlie's kids are before his siblings kids because that is how it works

    3. Yes

    4. Diana had a boyfriend named James Hewitt and they think Harry looks like him

  5. Prince Philip is not a Windsor his name is Mountbatten as Elizabeth on marriage took the name of Monte batten the Royals passed a decree that made Elizabeth a Windsor so that the line of Windsor will carry on reducing Philip to a consort.

Charles is the Prince of Wales the title given to all eldest sons of the ruler of Great Britain the line passes trough the Wales, Diana was Princess of Wales thus she bore the Heirs to the throne William and Harry.  The secession passes down the Male line to the Distaff side. So the Secession to the throne of England is the Wales line Prince Charles, William and Harry. The York line Andrew, Beatrice and Eugenia, The Wessex Line Edward and Louisa, then HRH Princess Anne and her line.

When William Marries all his children will go to the head of the line of succession followed by Harry and his brood then Andrew and so forth.

If you look a Harry you will get the answer Harry doesn't look a thing like the Windsors he has red hair but he dose look like one of the aides to the Princess of Wales.  It has lead to the rumor that Harry is a b*****d mothered by the Princess and a commoner. Diana would never say one way or the other and Prince Charles is on the birth certificate so barring a DNA test we will never know.

  6. 1.  Queen Elizabeth is the monarch i.e. the Head of State because the previous King had no sons.  Prince Philip is the consort, although he has been given the title Duke of Edinburgh.  I believe she was married before the coronation, but this would make no difference.

    2.  There is a line of male succession where precedence is given to the offspring of the King.  The monarch's eldest son will succeed her and his eldest son willsucceed him, and so on.

    3.  Yes.

    4.  Because people think he looks uncannily like James Hewitt, with whom Diana had an extra-marital affair.

  7. 1) I believe it is because the title is hereditary and she would have to appoint him King rather than it being automatic.

2)he is the eldest child so he will inherit the title/position and his eldest child will inherit it from him.

    3) Yes

    4) There was some scandal/gossip that Di had had an affair and Harry was the result.  I don't know if it's true or not but people will gossip about celebs and royalty true or not.

  8. 1. In the British monarchy, the husband of a female monarch does not have any recognized special status, rank, or privileges. In actual fact Prince Philip does play a major role in royal affairs, but this is not recognized in terms of his title. Interestingly enough, the wife of a male monarch (e.g. the Queen Mother was the wife of King George VI) takes on her husband's rank and style upon marrying, becoming Queen.

2 and 3 When a monarch dies, or abdicates, a successor is immediately decided according to rules which were laid down at the end of the seventeenth century.

The order of succession is the sequence of members of the Royal Family in the order in which they stand in line to the throne.

The basis for the succession was determined in the constitutional developments of the seventeenth century, which culminated in the Bill of Rights (1689) and the Act of Settlement (1701).

When James II fled the country in 1688, Parliament held that he had 'abdicated the government' and that the throne was vacant. The throne was then offered, not to James's young son, but to his daughter Mary and her husband William of Orange, as joint rulers.

It therefore came to be established not only that the Sovereign rules through Parliament, but that the succession to the throne can be regulated by Parliament, and that a Sovereign can be deprived of his title through misgovernment.

The succession to the throne is regulated not only through descent, but also by statute; the Act of Settlement confirmed that it was for Parliament to determine the title to the throne.

The Act laid down that only Protestant descendants of Princess Sophia - the Electress of Hanover and granddaughter of James I - are eligible to succeed. Subsequent Acts have confirmed this.

Parliament, under the Bill of Rights and the Act of Settlement, also laid down various conditions which the Sovereign must meet. A Roman Catholic is specifically excluded from succession to the throne; nor may the Sovereign marry a Roman Catholic.

The Sovereign must, in addition, be in communion with the Church of England and must swear to preserve the established Church of England and the established Church of Scotland. The Sovereign must also promise to uphold the Protestant succession.
