Question:

Some questions about tennis. . .?

Ok I'm really getting into tennis, but the rules and stuff are a little complicated to me right now. Can someone please answer the questions I have about the game?

1. What are break points and match points? Are they basically like a "game point" where one more point for a certain player and they win? and can anyone be in a break point?

2. Also, for the deuce, does it have to be both players reach 40 for the game to go into a deuce or can they both reach 30 or 15 too?

3. Is the server box area the two squares on each side of the net, or is it the big rectangular box at the farthest sides of the court?

4. When you're playing a singles game, can the ball land in between the farthest sidelines and the lines next to those, or do the boundaries end at the inside lines?

5. And finally, what are net points??

sorry, it's a lot, but you can answer whatever. I'll find out the rest somehow, but thanks a lot!!

  1. 1. break points occur when the person who is not serving reaches 40 points [or advantage if it becomes deuce] and they only need to win the next point to win the game [remember, game and match is different]. if a player wins a game when it's not their turn to serve, they have 'broken' the other players serve. thus, 'break point.'

match point is the same thing, except it can happen to either player; serving or receiving. the difference being that if they win the point, they win the entire match.

    2. deuce HAS to be both players reaching 40.

    3. the service box is the square that the person serving the ball has to hit the ball into at the beginning of the serve. its the box on either side of the net [depending on who is serving], closest to the net. remember, the server must hit the ball in the box opposite from the side they are standing, and in the box closest to the net. for example, if the server is standing on the left side of the center line, they must hit the ball into the right box, closest to the net, on the other side of the net. that box is the service box.

    4. the boundaries end at the inside lines. the other lines are only used in a doubles match.

    5. net points are points won at the net. when a player runs up close the net, they are said to be 'playing net'. so if they win the point while up close like that, they win a 'net point.' its no different from a regular point, just something used to point out the fact they won it while they were up close to the net.

    :]

  2. Tennis can be really confusing haha.

    1) A player faces a break point when they are serving and the opposing player only needs one point to win the game. EX: you and I are playing and I am serving.  You have gone ahead in points by two (games are scored 0, 15, 30, 40, then you win) and if you win the next point you will win the game.  Players are supposed to win the games that they are serving so if the other person wins, the person serving was "broken".

-Match point is when a player only needs to win one more point to win the match (you have to win by two).

    2) A deuce is when both players have reached 40. After 40, the player who is ahead has the advantage (AD) until they win by two.

    3) The serving area are the two boxes closest to the net.

    4) In a singles game the ball has to stay inside the inside two lines, if it goes in between the inside line (not the service line) and the outside line it is out, but it can hit the line and still be in.

    5) net points are when players come to the net instead of staying at the baseline.  If you are thinking of a let point, that is when a player serves and the ball hits the net and still goes on the other side.  Let serves are re-served.

    hope this helps!

  3. A break point is a point where your opponent is serving but you have 3 points in the game(40), and if you win one more you will have won the game while he is serving. Game point is the same thing but anyone can be serving. You have to reach 40 before you can have a deuce. The service box, is the smaller box inside of the big box, which is the baseline. When you are playinjg singles the ball must land in the square not including the other sidelines..the extension is only used for doubles. Net points are when you win a point when your at net.

have fun! i love tennis hope i helped
