I'm a English student and my teacher has asked me some questions to bring her the answer.one of them is:

Write the precise difference between the sentences below:

1.I EXPECT to hear from her.

2.I HOPE to hear from her.

3.I'm WAITING to hear from her.

4.I LOOK FORWARD to hearing from her.

PLEASE HELP ME!!

  1. Hmm, I know what they all mean but it is difficult to explain the precise meaning and difference as they are all so similar really.

    I will try to say, in another way, the essence of them.

    1. I am fairly sure to hear from her.

    2. I'm not sure I will, but I want to hear from her.

    3. I should hear from her soon.  Just a matter of time.

    4. I really want to hear from her.

    Expect means you are confident it will happen.

    Hope means something you want but you are not sure of.

    Eg. I hope it stops raining before I have to go out.

    Look forward means that you are waiting for something that you want.  eg, children look forward to Christmas.

    I hope this helps you to understand them better :)

    It is a tricky assignment.


  2. hope means they probably wont

    expect means you want to hear back from them

    waiting means you called them and you waiting for the to respond

    look forward means that you called and they probably will respond
