1. Why, when on break during a match, do boxers gargle the water instead of drink it?

2. What is that white thing in a box that they step on before going in the ring? Is it powder or something? What is it used for?

3. Is a boxing match really only 9 mins? Each match broken into 3 parts?

4. Has there ever been a death-accident during a game? Like a real, professional game?

5. Do boxers really starve themselves before a match? To get to their needed weight... like REALLY starve themselves? Because if so... how do they keep up in a match? Wouldnt their Stamina get drained?

6. If a boxer were to fall unconscious right before the start of the 2nd or 3rd match (while seated with their sedonds, before the bell)... would that be a forfeit or KO? And Why?

7. Do boxers really train their stomachs like that? Like having people step on it?

8. How many points do you lose when you are "down"?

9. Are referee's often injured during boxing matches?

Thanks so much!! Thanks!

  1. Some answers for you:

    1. Drinking the water would not be a good idea, because it makes you more vulnerable for body shots. If your stomach is filled, it is much harder to take body shots.

    2. I have no idea what you are talking about.

    3. Amateur boxing matches formerly had 3 rounds, each round three minutes. Since the olympic games in Athens (2004 i guess) the matches have four rounds, each round two minutes.

Professional boxing matches always have three minute rounds. The number of rounds differ from minimum four up to a maximum of twelve rounds. (so you can get to a fighting time of 36 mins)

    4. Yes, there where some deaths in the ring. But not all where the result of the fight. (The last one died of a heart attack )

    5. No, boxers don't starve themselves. Sometimes, when they are close to a lower weight division,  they try to sose some weight to fight in the lower division. But that does not affect their ability to fight.

    6. This is a difficult question. I think this must be a forfeit because the fighter is not able to continue the fight, but this is not the result of the other fighter.  It could also be treated as a technical KO. But this would depend on the referee's opinion.  In the result there is no difference.

    7. Yes. With a little training this is not a big deal. You can try it yourself (but only after some months of training and please don't sue me if you're not able to do it :) ).

    8. A knockdown is always scored with losing one point. But here is also a different scoring in amateur and professional bouts.

In amateur bouts every punch you land is a point. They get summed up to the final result. If you get knocked down, you lose one point.

In professional bouts, every round has a "winner" and a "loser". The winner of one round gets 10 points, the loser 9 points. If the loser gets knocked down, he loses a point. So if the weaker boxer gets knocked down twice in a round, it would be scored 10 to 7.

    9. No. This is extremely rare.

I hope I answered your questions. Please ignore any grammar errors, because English is not my first language.

  2. 1. ummm.... i guess cuz they don't want a stomach full of water while they're jumping around the ring knocking each others light's out ^^

    2. i've always wondered that too....

  3. Boxing you like everything

  4. 1 at a time too many?

  5. Here are some quick answers off the top of my head:

    1. Many fighters don't want water in their stomach during the fight; they just rinse out their mouths.

    2. Resin, which improves ring footing.

    3. Amateur boxing usually is three three-minute rounds, although they can be shorter. Pros can go anywhere from 3 to 12 rounds.

    4. Deaths have happened -- look up the biographies of Ray Mancini and Emile Griffith. Referees do their best to make sure beatings are stopped in time before severe damage takes place. Better too early than too late.

    5. Sometimes boxers will sit in a sauna for a while to make weight (they should know ahead of time if they are close). However, they usually have enough time to have a big meal, rehydrate, etc. Not an issue.

    6. Might be a technical knockout on the official record. Doesn't really matter. It wouldn't be a decision, obviously.

    7. Not often, but it looks good in the movies.

    8. In most 10-point must systems, a knockdown usually leads to a 10-8 round. Two knockdowns can drop it to 10-7.

    9. Once in a great while, referees get hit by a stray punch and get injured.

    Hope that helps.

  6. one question at a time! why so many?? : )

  7. WOW. That's a LOT of questions...

Well, I'll give it my all then...

    1. They don't need water swishing in their stomachs...

    2. It's used so the boxers won't slip and fall.

    3. Yes. Sometimes, it's 2 rounds and 6 minutes.

    4. Yes. In the real ones, but it's very rare. Many accidents, too.

    5. That's a myth. Many boxers don't do this.

    6. That would be a forfeit since the round didn't start.

    7. Ummm...NO....not many do that anymore...

    8. That I do not know....^^....

    9. HECK YEAH! Some get black eyes!!!

Dang, I didn't know I knew so much...
