Some shoe/people/stereotype problem?

This friend of mine always have been trying to get me to buy some converse shoes, I always liked them, but for various reasons only got the chance to get them a couple weeks ago. the store was out of the black high-rise classic converse I wanted, so i went to other stores, and saw a pair of Airwalk Kicks in Payless Shoe Source, considering they looking the same and feeling the same to me, and Airwalk kicks was a bit cheaper, I bought them instead. I actually really liked them. then my friend sorta freaked out a bit about how they're really different and Airwalk is fake and stuff. XD I always had an opinion over the wear-what-you-like-not-what-others-think that kind of thing, so I told her I don't really care if they are poser shoes or not and stuff, and we had an argument over it. we aren't really pissed at each other or anything, but I was still a bit bummed cuz she didn't share my enthusiasm over my new shoes at all. XD I mean, they're just shoes right? they don't mark who you are, and shouldn't people just wear whatever they like? I admit, I would definitely choose cons over kicks, but why does it matters so much? so I would like to hear what you guys think, thanks! :D

  1. I think a lot of society feels pressured to be in the "in crowd" Buying only the styles that the media or magazines tell them to wear. And I suppose when I was a teenager that I let that affect me a little. (although I never had the money to buy it) I still wish I had better clothes. But I AM glad that I kept my own sense of identity. You can still be an individual and wear what everyone else is wearing.

But I wouldn't let "coolness" dictate your life. You will always be unique, because you are the only you there is. No one can take that away from you. Nor can they take away how you feel on the inside.

I think your friend was out of line for getting upset over something YOU bought for YOURSELF. My only life advice I can give you in this situation is. Just be who you are. Once you start becoming a sheep of the media, that's when you start to even lose how you think. You voluntarily give up your own free will to be "cool"...And that's just not cool.
