Question:

Some simple Microsoft Excel Questions?

I have two questions:

1. I have a list of over 1700 names written

Last name, First Name.

How do I organize them alphabetically. Is there a way?

2. Some of the names have been highlighted red. Is there any way to tell excel to count the number of names highlighted red?

If any of you know, please explain these. Thanks so much.

  1. u can sort data but u can organize them alphabetically column by column.u can sort at least 3 columns at a time.

    1. select data which u want to sort

    2. go to data menu bar

    3. click on sort option

then sort data according to ur choice(ascending/descending oder)

  2. q.1 answer - use your sort feature in excel

q.2 answer - Yes, although this requires a snippet of vba code that you would ideally place into a macro (if you intend to use this command frequently, that is).

As for the code itself, there is a newsgroup specifically dedicated to vba programming for excel. It would be best to just use your google newsgroups reader to read the group.

The code may be slightly different for Excel 2007, so it is important to know what version of excel you are using.

If you wanted to poke around and learn some very elementary vba (visual basic for applications) coding, you could easily write this code yourself.

    Hope this answers your q's

  3. There's no way to count the ones colored red, but there is a way to sort it.

    Go to Format --> Sort.
