Some sort of USB that plays media on HDTV?

My friend was talking about how he had, I'm presuming, a USB device that, when he puts HD media into it, he can play it on his HDTV. I'm guessing it's probably some sort of USB, but I just want to double check what it can be?

  1. They are called media receivers.

Check for example the HP Mediasmart Connect, x280n. It has USB ports and can play media files from either a USB drive or over your home network.

  2. yes, there is a device that plugs into the USB port and is a NTSC/ATSC tuner. It comes with the software and a rod antenna.

It is about $80.00 but you can find a refurb for about $40 and a discounted version for about $60.00.

I know it works on XP SP2 and Vista. I have one... nice toy.
