  1. I agree that I wouldn't bother with the brown spot. Those are tough to fix since it's not a superficial ding but a discoloration of the foam due to water leaking in.

As far as fixing the dings it may not be worth it. If the board is still usable, (i.e. the dings aren't large, gaping holes), you may be able to sell it for almost what you paid for it. Otherwise there are plenty of shops in OC and Huntington Beach that can do the repairs... a rough estimate may be $50-$150 depending on the dings.

A great beach to surf that's not too crowded and is also good for beginners is Bolsa Chica.

If you're just starting out I'd recommend a 9' board. They're stable and easy to paddle.

Here's a decent article called 'Learn How To Surf in 1 Day' that has a few good tips:

    Good luck!

  2. It is not worth the time or money to attempt to remove the brown spot and it may compromise the strength of the board.  As for value, I guess it depends upon what you paid for it.  Obviously you'll probably get less than you paid.  If you've had it a while figure it will depreciate by probably a third of what you paid for it.  Check out craigslist for your area and see what boards are going for and price it accordingly.

As for size, talk to your local shop about that.  They'll know best based upon your skill level and where you plan to ride, just make sure that you are honest with them.  Don't tell them you rip if you don't.

  3. 'UP San Diego?'  Wha...?  San Diego is SOUTH of OC...meaning you go DOWN to San Diego.  I have a good idea...stay RIGHT where you are!  D
