Some things New Jersey Devils need to work on during the offseason -NHL Special
New Jersey Devils run for the Stanley Cup came to an end as they lost, 6-1, to Los Angeles Kings in Game 6 of the series, which was definitely an exciting time for both teams and something to measure their abilities, but now as the offseason begins, making
meaningful changes is the need of the hour.
There are multiple issues that the New Jersey Devils are currently facing. Some are financial and some being player related. There is only way to actually approach the situation is with a clear mind and all past activities forgotten and a new set of goals
for the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL) season.
Here are some issues that New Jersey Devils will be facing and need to work on during the offseason:
Captain Zach Parise
Definitely one of the best players on the team and a true visionary when it comes to the sport of hockey certainly has to be Zach Parise. When all others fail, Zach Parise is there to single-handedly lift his team.
He was a major contributor during the post and regular season, but with rumours of him looking for a transition this year to another team, New Jersey Devils could be losing one of their best team players.
Teams are drooling at the prospect of having Zach Parise playing on their team, but will the young left winger really move on?
After playing seven straight seasons for New Jersey Devils and the expiration date for his one-year, $6 million contract set for July 1, Zach Parise could be the Brad Richards of 2012.
Teams are reportedly getting ready to make offers similar to which New York Rangers made to Richards, a nine-year, $60 million contract, which would be hard for Parise to refuse. There is no telling where Parise might go or whether he has made up his mind
already or not, but New Jersey needs to attend to this situation as soon as possible.
Martin Brodeur: a long or short term investment?
Martin Brodeur is set to become an unrestricted free agent by the start of the July and despite him saying that New Jersey is the place he wants to continue playing, Devils will have to decide whether to take him on for another year or two or invest heavily
for a longer term.
Nearly grabbing another championship, the three-time Stanley Cup winner will definitely not be coming aboard cheap. New Jersey Devils need to plan out how long they are willing to keep the 40-year-old on the team right this month.
