Pens sign core players, Satan, Fedetenko....lose Hossa. Devils add Holik and Rolston. Rangers add Redden lose Jagr. Habs add Tangauy. Bruins add Ryder. Sens add Smith lose Redden. Caps resign Federov and add Theo. Hurricanes made a trade and the Lightning basically signed every other possible FA. So who did the best so far this offseason and who did the worst in the East. And what team made you think "what are they doing?"

  1. you forgot that the Rangers got Naslund as well.

  2. they are still miles behind the western conference as far as talent

  3. The Penguins had a rough offseason.  They lost Conklin, Hossa, Laraque, Roberts, and others.  Their addition of Satan and Fedetenko will probably not be able to fill the hole of Hossa, so they have a lot of work cut out for them.

    The Capitals are doing good and should still be a contender next year.

  4. The lightning obviously did the best, but then again..it would have been hard for them not to haha. Atlanta stands out in my mind as the "what are they doing?" because they really haven't done ANYTHING. Kovalchuck is a great player but he needs some help! They weren't even as much of a contender as they needed to be even with Hossa. They missed the boat for sure.

    Edit:

    The penguins did not have a rough offseason. They lost Hossa and a bunch of role players. But incase you didnt notice, the penguins were still in first in the Atlantic before they even acquired Hossa. Im so sick of ignorant hockey fans thinking the penguins did bad because of that. Besides that, who did they lose? A bunch of replaceable players. Thats it. Satan will score at least 30 goals on crosbys line...it will be impossible for him not to.

  5. even though the pens took a few blows this offseason, im still confident that they will be stanley cup contendors again this year.

  6. I would easily say the best is the Tampa Bay Lightning just because they've got a lot of players to help fill roles. Now everything isn't put upon just St. Louis and Lecavalier. Rangers will not be bad off, yea they lost Jags and Avery but they've got better on the blue line and offensively I think it'll click. The Devils really went nowhere in that they acquired guys they once had hoping for an old spark. The worst would be the Penguins because they lost a lot of role players and didn't really get anyone to fill those roles. Matt Cooke is no Ruutuu, and they didn't get anyone to replace Laraque. Both Fedetenko and Satan are older and are passed their prime, I don't see either passing 20 goals. My "what are they doing?" team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. I chose them purely due to the fact that they haven't done much at all. I think they should've been active in the free agent market and they weren't. It's going to be another disappointing season for the fans in Toronto.

  7. The signing of satan wasnt that good, he is old and lazy, The rangers lost 3 of their top 5 scorers, as well as avery, their wings are terrible and they have all of 600,000 under the cap to resign dawes, the Habs did good getting tanguay, the lightning however i thought went overboard signing secondary scoring, when they really should have gotten a good stay at home defensman, thats what made the goalies look like c**p(the goalies werent great, but looked worse with their defense), bruins adding ryder was good, they have good offense, however they need more defensive depth, their may be a decent dman still left, but their offense will be great since they will be getting bergeron back as well.  Devils had trouble scoring last year, rolston should help solve that problem.

    Overall the winners were the devils, bruins, and TB

  8. I'm shocked the devils haven't picked up a decent goalie prospect.  Brodeur most likely won't be playing after this coming year.  Other than that they picked up some talent, which makes me sad.

    The Pens had a very rough offseason.  They lost a lot of character guys, and replaced them with Ruslan Fedotenko and Satan.  The guys they lost may have been role players, but they were arguably the best role players in the game.

    Laraque?   Goon.  But possibly the best goon and fighter in the league.

    Roberts?  Veteran.  But possibly the most experienced guy in the NHL.  Knew how to win a cup.

    Malone?  Hometown hero.  Loss of leadership and was a fan favorite.

    Ruutuu?  Goon.  Had a scoring touch however, a few clutch goals and an absolutely huge on-ice presence.

    Hossa?  Clearly was a rental, but had every clutch goal in the Pengiuns offseason.  Crosby only seemed to score after they were up by 5 goals (he did have a few completely clutch ones).  Put the most effort in on their entire offense and carried them to the Finals.

    Satan's career is over, and Fedotenko didnt have one to start with.  I'm not sure who they expect to replace everyone with.  They had every role filled perfectly.

    Meanwhile, Tampa just signed everyone.

    (where the h**l were my flyers?)

    Best = TBL

    Worst = Pittsburgh

  9. The lighning had the best offseason so far in getting, roberts, malone,recchi,kolzig,etc had the best but they still need a goalie cause olie is old.

    The pens have had a really tuff offseason cause they have lost malone, laraque, roberts, conklin, hossa and others. They added the up and down Fedetenko and satan.

    The What are you doing catagory is the canes in dealing cole. They got the always useless joni pitkinin

  10. As a Devil's fan I am sooo happy my team got off of the butts and did some offseason shopping. I will be honest with you....Almost every team made me say  "What are they doing"

  11. The Rangers will be awesome next season. Sure, they lost Jagr (he wasn't playing up to par during the regular season) and Avery (who I will miss), but they added Naslund, Zherdev, and Redden.
