Some tips for growing a dinonaea muscipula (venus flytrap)?

I want to grow a venus flytrap, indoors. I live in SoCal so it never gets to cold, and the spot I've chosen gets a small-moderate amount of sunlight. Also, I don't know if I should start it from a seed or buy one already growing. Which would give me a better, healthier plant? Any tips?

  1. If you've never grown it before, it's much easier to get one that is mature and established.  Lots of home improvemet stores sell them but I recommend that you try and find ones that have been acclimated to indoor growing conditons.  Check your local nursery. If you get one that has a lid on it, you will need to slowly acclimate it to your home humidity level. Slightly crack open the lid for a few minutes each day gradually increasing the amount of time exposed to your humidity. Like most plants you will want to have between 40-60% relative humidity at a minimum in your home for them to  do well.  Venus flytraps need direct sunlight to do well.

  2. we have one. it's kept in the window . instructions say to keep the soil very moist.
