  1. Incorporate aspects of aboriginal culture into your program on a regular basis. This could include art activities, simple songs, simple phrases that the children can learn etc.

Here in Adelaide there is a great organisation called ARMSU who provide excellent ideas for incorporating Aboriginal concepts into your program to help develop understanding. They also have aboriginal workers who come out to the centre and perform workshops with the children on a range of things from music, to art to dreamtime activities. I am sure there are similar organisations in other states, but am not sure how to go about finding them!

They are an excellent resource though, and I have used them often. Perhaps search for an aboriginal centre in your state, they may also be able to help you out with some ideas. I spent two weeks in an Aboriginal centre in Coober Pedy last year, standing in as a relief teacher, and learnt some very valuable ideas from staff (and children) there, gaining a lot better understanding of the Aboriginal culture from that region. Good luck with it all! Please feel free to contact me if you would like some more specific ideas/activities.

  2. You need to get things written down clearly, like a leaflet, brochure, book, this then can be used to educate and wipe out ignorance.   Also, get a good HP going to get your message across.  Good luck
