Some website that i come across have 4 WWWW.something.com why is that???

remember only websites have 3 www.something.com instead a website that i came across has 4 wwww.something.com? help me out here

becuase those usually are fake websites. usually to steal your information and password.

like if you were trying to log into yahoo and you acccidentally went to "wwwW.yahoo.com" then that would send you to a fake yahoo webpage where when you sign into your account then it actually emails your password to the person who made the website then they use your account to advertise and spam other people and get them to go to the same fake webpage.

it's called phishing, myspace is FULL of them and some are emerging on facebook now.

they use the 4 W's because most people wouldn't notice that there was an extra W and would make the fake page look more realistic.

umm thats weird because www means world wide web so i have no idea what wwww would mean....never heard of it.

The www part of a website is simply a sub-domain. The domain is, say, yahoo.com. Some sample sub-domains are finance.yahoo.com, mail.yahoo.com, answers.yahoo.com...the list goes on. www.yahoo.com is simply another sub-domain of yahoo.com, which points to their main homepage.

So whatever website you were at had wwww.domain.com as a sub-domain.
