Ok, here's my problem. I keep failing the IP address test. I've called xbox customer service and that didn't help. I have Comcast internet connection (stand alone modem). When I connect my xbox to the modem, I fail the first test (even after I power cycle so don't say to do that). But when I connect my Xbox to the back of my pc via ethernet cord, I pass the network adapter test but fail the ip address test. If someone can help me and give me step by step instructions on how to do it I would appreciate it. I am a very competitive person and I want to play on-line. Help me please???????

  1. you may be running into a firewall within the modem.

by any chance do you have a black arris modem? i have comcast also and i didnt run into any problems.

  2. Don't connect the xbox directly to the modem.  Go to the store and buy a cheap router. Plug the router into the modem, then plug your xbox (and if you want, your pc as well) into the router.  The router will assign an ip address to the xbox and anything else you attach to the router will also get an ip address.  The reason you pass the network adapter test but not the ip test when you connect to the pc is that your pc does not have the ability to assign an ip. A router does.
