Somebody explain to me the elitism of being "green"?

I know tons of people who claim to be green, eat a vegetarian diet, and "don't use paper" because it kills trees and then I see those same douchebags riding around in gas guzzling SUVs and sipping out of non-biodigradable styrofoam coffee cups.

  1. LOL!

    You tell 'em, babe.

    :-)

  2. I dont drive an SUV.. nor am I a vegetarian... although I dont eat as much meat as most people - cause lets face it, most people eat way too much even for a healthy diet...

I do use paper, but am not wasteful with it.. and I dont drink coffee at all, styrofoam or not...

I am pretty darn green though, I turn off lights and replace old bulbs with better ones as they need replacing.. I dont "shop til I drop" - thereby I am not raping the earth for c**p I dont need

I have my own garden and grow lots of my own food - which is healthier than store bought with chemicals and pesticides on and in it...

I love second hand shops!  I plant trees every year.... and have free range chickens!

it saves you money if you go green...

    - people who buy coffee out are dumb.. it costs about 16 cents to make a cup of coffee yet most places charge well over $1

  3. EXACTLY!! People like to say that they care about the Earth, when really you are doing more for the Earth then they are!!! Just because they did something right once doesn't mean the Earth is gonna be saved by them!! And being Vegetarian isn't being green.... it's just not eating meat. Really, when people say they are being green, it means there doing something to care for the air and environment... vegetarianism won't help the Global Warming... it's people like you that are gonna save the earth not the jerks that say they will by doing like one thing every freakin decade!!! Way to go!

  4. Is this really a question or an observation?  To me, its a border-line troll question.  There's hypocrites in *every* walk of life- be it green elitists, religion Xers, parents, cops, etc.

You can politely point out their faults, but ultimately, you can't change anyone if they really don't want to change. All you can do is change yourself / your behavior / your reaction to those individuals that you find hypocritical.

  5. I practice what I preach, but I know what you mean.

I think those people do those things to appease their own guilty conscience. They think that by making others think they are doing right, or are able to "convert" others to go green, then they truly won't have to change their lifestyle because others will be doing enough.

They are either lazy, trend followers, or don't really care, but they don't want to get reprimanded for not doing anything.

it's so annoying, especially when there are those of us who truly want to make a difference, and these people go around undermining the cause.

  6. A few years ago they would likely have smoked cigarettes and driven a cadillac because they are not people who think things through but think they recognize what is hip....

    Hip is not green.

Did you ever notice how often the biggest luxury SUV's are driven by petite little women? Odd phenomena!

  7. i do exactly what mand b is saying plus more and the idiot part of the   population are like u (that must find some **** of others that are doing better than you)

and i honestly think u are talking abt some trend people that are in minority but we that really care abt the environment are not so few as u think but we must be more to save the world but so long there is people that think like u nothing is happening.

  8. Maybe they don't know any better?  Or maybe they just can't afford to sell their SUV just yet to get something more efficient?  Personally, I don't really know too many people who truely care about the environment but still waste and pollute like that.  I'm sure they're out there though!
