  1. When you are dead drunk and getting your freak on you don't know where you are.  They were getting some serious freak on!!!

    That explains it!!

  2. Stupidity and showing off. Take both of those and team them together and you can do incredibly stupid, unimaginable things!

  3. The only way you could fall off is by being and doing something stupid. You would have to climb up on the railing, its the only way you could fall over......short of someone physically picking you up and throwing you over. We know that wasn't the case with these two, they both had to be sitting or standing on the railing.  They are so lucky to be alive.

  4. Natural selection.

  5. my friend was on a cruise and the people next to her room fell over. they were drunk and jumped up on the rail not knowing it was wet. their lucky they lived

  6. Not really an answer but I am impressed they managed to tread water for 4 hours.

  7. Having been on 4 cruises this year alone i really find it hard to believe the number of people falling off. The rails seems to me to be designed so that falling off doesn't happen. I will admit to drinking way way too much one evening and still managed to stay on the boat. The only time i was ever worried was going out on the bow area late at night, you have never seen dark  like that

  8. MYTH

  9. I don't get it either. My dad just went on a cruise and that's all I could think about. But thankfully he managed to keep his balance and is safely back on dry land.

  10. I agree, the cruise ship railings would not be that easy to fall off. There would be some situations where it may be a little easier, i.e. if the ship lists, or if the waves are really bad. But, even if the waves are really bad, it would be very hard to fall.

Personally, I never drink on a cruise, and if I do it is very little, I just don't think it is a good combination. Some people just aren't able to handle alcohol as well as other people. And, in the case of the guy that fell off a few weeks ago, I heard he had a bad reaction to his medication, only had one beer and then couldn't remember anything after that point.

For the most part, I think that these problems are from people over drinking and/or doing things that are not real smart on a cruise.

I definitely don't think these things are real accidents, people just need to use more common sense when it comes to these type things.

  11. You said it yourself -- the railings are chest-high for a reason!

The only way these people are falling off is by climbing up onto something and fooling around.  Either they're on a chair on the deck, or up on the railing itself...  Either way, they've had to WORK at it, to get themselves to fall off the boat.
