I got into this bad habit of staying up til 3 or 4 AM. But now it's only 1 AM and I am honestly TIRED. I WANT to sleep, but I can't! I even get rid of all distractions necessary and there I go, just lying awake in bed for a good half hour before I figure "I'll just stay up til I HAVE to go to sleep." This is driving me nuts, I have headaches more often, and can't remember anything plus I'm cranky since I'm tired most of the time. HELP!

  1. Its clinically proven that drinking makes you go into the bad sort of sleep but I've never noticed any ill effect of it on my sleep.  Anyway that isn't good advice.  Try benadryl or allergy meds with diphenhydramine.  Two of those should put you to sleep but if you really MUST PASS OUT take 3 just to make sure... it's not going to hurt you if your an adult.  It'll take about 30 minutes for them to kick in.  You will be asleep in an hour tops.  After a few nights this might help you get back on a regular sleep schedule but I wouldn't take them for more than 3 or 4 nights in a row.  A couple times a week though shouldn't effect you.

  2. Well, the crankiness and headaches are most likely from lack of sleep. Take some tylenol for the headaches. That out of the way, let's cover some things that may help you sleep.

Try listening to relaxing music. Something instrumental. Lyrics make you think, and thinking doesn't help you sleep.

Herbal teas can help. Chamomile is supposed to help with falling asleep.

Avoid caffeine and sugar for the last 6-8 hours of your day.

It's going to sound perverted (please understand that it's not), but masturbation could help. I've suggested it to several people I know (men and women), and the results have been pretty good.

Taking a hot bath can also help. A nice 30-45 minute bath in hot water helps relax you physically, which in turn will relax you mentally.

Most of all, calm down. Stress will keep you awake better than a triple shot of Cuban coffee. Force yourself to breath slow, deep breaths while you are in bed.

If these don't help you at all, see a doctor. Sleep deprivation can lead to many more serious health problems.

  3. I used to feel the same way. Please take this into consideration. It worked for me, although I am not you.

I had insomnia. It turned out to be my use of Splenda. Yup Splenda. How could something that taste so good, be so bad?

I like to say sucralose, not Splenda, because that is what Splenda is. And it is in a lot of stuff. Sadly, the package doesn't have to say Splenda or diet to have sucralose in it. You have to read labels. So, you might be using it and don't even know it!

Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it, including overwhelming anxiety, depression, mood swings, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues and more.

Go ahead, google: anxiety splenda or anxiety sucralose or insomnia splenda or insomnia sucralose

The slogan, "Made from sugar..." is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons.

carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air
