It's a ceramic tile floor that was painted a terracota color. It is beautiful. Someone glued a carpet runner down the middle on top the floor. I want to remove the carpet without ruining the painted floor. What can I use. The carpet is ugly.

  1. to remove the adhesive, i would try the following and use whatever works and is the least messy and easiest.  definately try a teeny spot where least noticeable first before attempting the entire run.

    wd-40

    rubbing alcohol

    goo gone

    nail polish remover

    white vinegar

    cooking oil

use cotton balls, white paper towels (like bounty or viva; use a good quality over a cheapie) or old white t-shirts or washcloths/handtowels.

makes you wonder what goes through people's minds that they glue a carpet over a perfectly good ceramic tile.  lol

    good luck.

  2. I know that paint thinner will remove the adhesive but it will also kill the paint on the tile. I say try using a small amount of nail polish remover. It should dissolve most of the adhesive. Be very careful, and good luck!
