For the past month or so, ever since I got out of school, I have occasionally been experiencing lightheadedness and dizziness upon standing. It's scary and it feels like I could faint at times. This has no major effect on my job or functioning, it's just a concern I have. My job, which I truly love, requires me to work alot of hours outside in the heat almost everyday. I sometimes get headaches and feel a bit loopy. At work, we get breaks but alot of times I choose not to go on break cause I don't want to buy food in the cafeteria (I can't bring in a lunch box either) cause I'm saving money for high gas prices and moving out. As a result, I go all day on the job without eating, and plus I had my doctor lower the dose on my antidepressant cause I want to save money at the pharmacy too. So, could my symptoms be a direct result of my behavior and lifestyle I been doing lately?

  1. sounds like it could be ur gall bladder...next thing to happen would be some pain and possible vomiting check it out now so u can save ur gall bladder

  2. it could be a lot of things... from what you describe it sounds kind of like vertigo or an inner ear problem (dizziness), but it could also be a problem related to your antidepressant....

I would check with your doctor to be sure.

  3. Hi, it could well be related to the reduction in antidepressant.  It could also be postural hypotension- low blood pressure when you stand up after sitting/lying down/bending etc.  Going without food won't help and postural hypotension is a common side effect of many antidepressants and I would imagine it could be the same when coming off them.

  4. i have low blood pressure and i tend to experience the same symptoms as you. you need to eat something for lunch because when you skip meals your blood pressure isn't going to rise. you also need to keep hydrated in order to prevent fainting and also to help with the dizziness and headaches

  5. You didn't discuss age, weight, temperature where you work, recent blood work, your diet, etc.  whether or not you are diabetic, on other meds besides antidepressants, if you take supplements of any sort, your blood pressure, and what and when you generally eat.

    So, hon, not enough information.

  6. Absolutely, it's a result of how you're abusing your body with your habits!

Your body needs nourishment and hydration in order to function properly. If it doesn't get what it needs, lightheadedness and headaches can happen, particularly when working outdoors in heat and humidity.

You really need to eat a breakfast which has a sizeable amount of protein and complex carbohydrates to get you through the day. Take a bit of cheese, fruit, and whole-grain bread to eat in the cafeteria at lunch. I'm sure you could fit it into your purse.

Breaks are particularly important in order to drink lots of water and allow your body to get out of the sun and rest. It's folly to skip them.
