Hey everyone. Well I have an Olympus digital camera. Last weekend I spent the night at my friends house and I brought the camera along with the charger. My camera died so I took the battery out to charge it. I know that sounds weird but I have to take the battery out and put it in this square thing that you plug into an outlet to charge it. Anyway, it was charging for a half an hour, maybe 45 minutes, and then I put the battery back in my camera. I know that I didn't charge it long enough but it would last for a little. Anyway, when I tried to turn on my camera it wouldn't turn on! I didn't drop my camera at all, and I didn't put the battery in the wrong way either because the cover for the battery won't close unless you put it in correctly. Does anyone know what could be wring? Should I get a knew battery? Also, one of my friends was saying something about a "hold" switch, but my camera doesn't have one of those. So that's not it. Help PLEASE! Thanks!

  1. Well there are a couple of reasons why it's not working. One could be the battery has finally died. It doesn't happen from one day to another so you would have noticed it charges and last less and less after each use. Second could be the charger. Sometimes chargers stop working. Third the metal contacts on the battery or charger could have gone out.

I would recommend going into your local electronics store, hopefully where you made the purchase, and ask them to test it out for you.  Both the charger and battery should be tested to determine where the problem lies.

Worse case scenario you will have to replace both battery and charger. In a very rare instance you may have to replace the camera it's self. Let's hope not!

If you are within a year of purchase make sure you contact the manufacture. They offer you a one year warranty on parts and labor.

    Hope this helps!

  2. i would initially say battery is bad...happens.

could be the camera....there are hold button things on memory cards so maybe that could be an issue.

    under warranty i hope :)

    have a nice day

  3. First, I would try to re-charge the battery. If that doesn't work, I would then buy a new battery and charge it. Finally, I would call customer support if that doesn't work. Not important, but, I too own an Olympus Digital Camera.

  4. As above, try charging the batt again.

Sometimes the battery and/or charger just aren't properly plugged in, so make sure everything is tight, no loose connections.

  5. It's possible the rechargeable batteries are totally exhausted, some makes are good, some very poor, I had some 'Uniross' rechargeable purchased from a chain store, they stopped holding anymore charge after about a year......what a waste of money!

  6. It sounds like the battery is kaput. You want to have someone take a multitester and see if the battery has any charge, and if it is up to it's rated output specs. Go to a repair shop, or even maybe a Radioshack and ask them to test the battery.

Incidently, your Olympus support page for the 760 is here:

  7. I would guess that your camera's battery has been recharged to its fullest. REchargable batterys are only able be recharged so many times before the charge they hold gets to be less and less. If you charge your camera a lot, then this could be the case. You could contact the company too and ask them about it..
