  1. 4.0 and 4 are the same thing.

Unless I was bonked in the head, they are the same thing.

  2. Very cool question.

The reason you write 4 dot 0 is to show where you are rounding.

In this case you are rounding to a tenth which is just one zero after the dot.

If they told you to round to a hundredth, then you would write 4.00 to show that your number is only good to 2 zeroes after the dot.

Here's a clue which might help > if you use a spreadsheet and format a column to be 2 decimal places, all the numbers will show up like so:

    3.89

    4.00

    2.11

    etc.

  3. Because 4 isn't rounded to the nearest tenth. You have to show what is in the tenths place.

    3 (unit - ones place) . (decimal) 9 (tenth) 9 (hundredth) 9 (thousandth)

    4 (ones place) . 0 (tenth)

  4. Because 4.0 is 4 and no tenths.  4 is just 4, which is rounded to the nearest whole number.

  5. You have to show place value of the tenths place.

If you just say 4, that would only be showing place value of the ones.

I don't know if that makes sense to you....hahaha.

  6. 4.0

  7. This is to show the number has been rounded off.

  8. When you advance in math, you'll realize later on that 4 could mean a variety of different things.  You need to be as specific as possible, thus 4.0

  9. i am not totally sure but ithink it is cuz your supposed to round to the tenth not whole.
