  1. A) 102/1000 = .102

    B) 100 + 2/1000 = 100.002

  2. whats interesting is, the answer depends where you're from. Americans commonly say "one hundred two" for 102. whereas I would say "one hundred and two".

I would read one hundred two thousandths as "one hundred, two thousandths" 100.002

and i would read one hundred and two thousandths as 0.102.

so if you're from Britain, I would think carefully before answering.

  3. 102/1000 in decimals 0.102

They are the same value, the first is a fraction, the second =102/1000 which equals 0.102 ( in decimals)

  4. .102

    100.002

It's a very subtle difference in wording... just the word "and".   The thousandths, is the 3rd digit after the decimal, so the first is 102 thousandths and the second is 100 AND 2 thousandths.

    Hope this makes sense.

  5. look, thousands has 3 zero wich means that you are going to write the number 102 to the right like this 0.102

    a. 0.102000

    b. 0.100

    c. 0.2000

  6. The first one is easy: 102/1000 or .102

The second one presents some difficulty.

To be strictly correct, the number 102

is read aloud as "one hundred two", and also

in correct "math speak", the word "and" signifies

the transition from whole numbers to fractions.

The correct interpretation of the second one

(and probably the point of the exercise) then, is

100.002  (one hundred (pause) and 2 thousandths).

However, in common speech outside the classroom,

one often says "a hundred and two" for the number 102 -

think temperatures on hot summer days, for example -

which makes the second one somewhat ambiguous,

    practically speaking.

No doubt this exercise is part of a lesson on the importance

of naming numbers correctly.  It also illustrates why we write

them down: there is no ambiguity about 100.002 vs 102/1000

    when they are written down.

  7. one hundred two thousandths = .102

one hundred and two thousandths as decimals =100.002

    Because

"thousandths" means three decimal places; it is same thing as dividing by 1000

    one hundred two thousandths = 102/1000 = .002

    **********************************

one hundred AND two thousandths as decimals

notice and after "one hundred".  AND means decimal point.  Again, "thousandths" means three decimal places.  Of course, number before decimal is whole numbers.

so one hundred is whole number 100 and

    two thousandths is 2/1000 = .002

    100.002

Is that make sense to you?  I hope that helped

  8. 0.102 = one hundred two thousandths

100.002 = one hundred and two thousandths

They differ by a lot. Would you rather have $one hundred two thousandths or $one hundred and two thousandths?

$one hundred and two thousandths = $100.002 which is $100 and two tenths of a penny.

$one hundred two thousandths = $.102 which is ten cents and two tenths of a penny.

One is $99.90 more than the other.

It might be hard to understand cause they sound the same if you're not listening, but if you had the cash you wouldn't have to ask (I would hope!) what the difference is.
