Someone beats your child. What do you do?

This question started out as a responce to another question asked here in Y.A about "would you kill"?...

So, I wrote out my answer - then it got me all going again.

So I'll ask.

What would YOU have done?

Have you ever wanted to Kill someone?

(My answer)...

Yep.

Twice.

Brought my daughter home from private day care and noticed a bruise mark on her face - someone had pinched her chin with their thumb and forefinger - like people do when they want kids to look at them when they're talking / to listen.

I started to shake but calmly told my 5 year old daughter, “Bubble Bath Time Sweetie”!, helped her take off her clothes - and saw a HUGE (and I mean H.U.G.E) handprint on her back.

She'd been beaten at day care.

So, we finished her bath, got her in her sleeper, drove to the police station (along with a Happy Meal from Mc D's)... I walked in to dispatch and told the dispatcher (my acquaintance) to watch my daughter *just a sec* that I’d be *right back*.

I drove calmly to the woman's house.

To kill her...

I had my H&K P7M13 9mm hand gun and (I must add) my permit to conceal/carry with me.

I had every intention of shooting her like a dog - drive back to the station and turn myself in.

The cops stopped me just as I was about to open her door.

I took my daughter to the hospital with a promise the police would deal with the child abuser.

The hospital took pictures of my daughters body.

Just before going to court - the hospital *regretted to inform me* the pictures of my daughters poor beaten and bruised little 5 year old body, had been lost.

Later I found out the child beaters sister worked for the local police there in the jurisdiction of the hospital. (The second time I wanted to kill).

To this day I still regret not beating the life out of that filthy woman.

I’ll always regret that.

But who knows what would have happened if I had.

Would my daughter have gone without her mother for God knows how long a time?

Right choice, but, I still regret it.

By the way.

No matter how many times you check out babysitter.

No matter who you know that they know etc...(in this case my husband at the time worked with this woman’s husband)

Watch them, I mean CLOSE, closer than you’d watch matches and gas.

Never, ever, everrrrr let your guard down, for even a second.

Wow.  I feel so bad for you.  Something worse could have happened to your daughter; she could have lost her mom for good.

Don't regret that you didn't commit murder.  How would you have reacted if you didn't have a gun?  Not to get into the gun control issue - but this why.  This is why people shouldn't have guns.  For people like you who get so mad and out of control that they can't control their use of their gun.

If I were you, I hope that you have tried to get this person out of business.  If she's licensed daycare provider you can file a report against her.  They can investigate and still if nothing is to be found, at least you know you tried.  It's too bad that you didn't take the pictures - but of course no one thinks about stuff like that when it happens to them, you know?  

I'd feel so bad if this happened to my children.  They go to a very personable, likeable, has 4 good kids of her own, outgoing home babysitter.  I'm curious of how long your child was going to this sitter before this happened?  

Anyways, to answer your question, I've never come this close to wanting to kill anyone.  I'm sure if something bad happened to my kids, I would come close too.

I'd beat the living c**p out of the person who hit my kid. Because children cannot defend themselves.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that.  That is every parents worst nightmare, that someone will harm their child.  

I don't know what I'd do. I certainly would be tempted to kill or physically harm whoever hurt my child.  I don't know how much restraint I'd have.  I think the only thing that would stop me is I think it would hurt my child further to have me be in jail for god only knows how long.  

I"m so sorry you went through this and I hope you find peace.

The last statement is a very good one.  You have to watch people these days.  Your child(ren) are your precious jewels.  I would have taken pictures for myself too though so they wouldn't have "lost" them.

I've always believed in justice over revenge but the way the justice systme has become i would have done the same thing, 'cept with a P-90. oh and why couldn't have shown the bruises to judge herself on the court date?

You will do your child no good sitting in prison all of your life..Permit or not it doesnt matter..if you shoot someone with a permit and they are not attempting to do any bodily harm to you..that is an illegal use of a firearm./...I would settle for a simple assault charge..and beat the h**l out of them if I knew who exactly did this...If more than one person is at the daycare then you don't possitively know..If I did know ..I would inform them that they will receive police protection "AFTER THEY ARRIVE..WITH THE AMBULANCE..>>use no weapons here..Your child will have no fun talking to you through bars the rest of your life...

I don't have children yet. But if anyone had beaten my child, I would have stabbed the person, but I would have to go to jail then. So I'll go to the police station.

I don't know what I'd do, but my boyfriend says (and the scary thing is that I believe him!) he would kill anybody that hurt his not-even-conceived-yet daughter regardless of the consequences.

It's a tough call because I'm sure whatever any authority did to punish that person would still not seem like enough. You feel you must take matters into your own hands. I feel so passionately about it and i don't even have kids yet!

If there is a next time (which lets pray to God there isn't!) you should take some pictures yourself.  Don't rely on ANYBODY else because as you know, this world is pretty corrupted.  I can see why you wanted to kill this woman.  I would feel the same way!  Thats just not right.  Its a good thing you didn't kill her though, because that little girl needs her mommy! Today's justice system is so screwed up its just not even funny.

I mean, that's just sad. My dad used to beat me up when i was a kid, but I mean when it's hjappening to another person, that's sad. You should probably take your child to self-defense classes (as in Martial Arts) to make them feel better and feel more protected. But good choice. Never, ever, kill a person for just beating someone up. They won't feel a thing if you shoot them, but you'll have to live your entire life dealing with this in your mind.

I would want to kill too! but good thing you didn't so you can still be there for the child today! I want so badly to stay at home with my OWN kids so I wont have to worry about stuff like this.... You are right, never let your guard down

to be honest i would have done the exact same as you, but with my luck i would have actually done it and went to jail, a poor defensless child has no way to protect them selfs from adults like this!! stupid stupid stupid people!!!!! this is exacty why i stay at home with my son and i know not everyone can afford to do this trust me we barely do! if i do need a sitter im lucky enough to have family to watch him.

i would have taken my own pics for sure if anything like this ever happens again u take pics first with the time and date on them!! or with a newspaper in them showing the date,  im sorry this a*****e got away with it.

wow......wow....I would of done the same ting sweetie and you know what, after they lost the pictures I would of beaten the snot out of her anyways or hired someone to do so.  I know that sounds horrible but come on people who would harm such an innocent child?  I cannot even bring myself to spank my 5 yr old.  That lady deserved a good a$$ beating...I am still shocked...
