Someone crashed into my car on Monday when it was parked and i was at work, the person that crashed into it was doing some building work at my office and came and told me. I hcalled my insurance company and they contacted his and got my car in for repair. My insurance policy said i have to pay the excess of £400! so now i am out of pocket by £400 when the accident wasnt my fault i wasn't even in the car it was parked. So how do i claim my £400 back? Do i go direct to their insurance company to claim it back. I shouldn't be out of pocket for something that wasnt my fault.

Thanks

  1. I had the same issue happen when I was shopping only unfortunately for me they didn't leave their insurance information.  yes, call their insurance company and explain the situation.  They will issue you a check made payable for the amount you paid out of pocket.

  2. You pay your excess since you are going through your own collision coverage.  They will in turn subrogate for what they paid you and your excess.  The recovery could take a few months.

If you do not want to pay anything up front, file a claim against the other party's property damage coverage.

  3. Your Insurance Company should sort it out with the Insurance Company of the person who crashed into you!
