Someone cut my newly planted mini roses with a weed eater. Will they grow back?

The roses were fairly new (have never bloomed) I think. There is about 1/2-1 inch of stem left sticking out of the ground.I am not sure what variety of mini roses they were. Planting flowers is a new interest to me and these roses were the first flowers I have ever planted, and them getting cut off has ruined my newly found interest in flowers. :(

  1. Hmmm....when I had flowers in pots in our backyard and rabbits ate the bloom of they never re-grew.  So I'm guessing you'll have to buy some new roses.....sorry! :(

  2. As long as the roots are still in the ground they should come back.  The roots are all that counts.  Many people prune their roses to the ground so that their bushes have only new growth.  Roses are very hardy.  I dug up a rose and moved it across the yard and two years later a little stem has shot out of the ground from where i dug it up two years ago.  They should come back, roses put up new stems every year, mine are doing it now.

P.S. the flowers need to be cut off after they have bloomed on the stem just above where there is a small stem with 5 leaves on it.  A new stem will sprout off that location.

  3. They may.  However if the mini rose has been grafted to a hardy rootstock they may not be mini!  Give the plants plenty of water and wait.  Growth should appear within a week or two if they survived.
