  1. You will need to give the name of the driver to the police. If they're uninsured, they'll be in trouble. If they had your permission, you'll be in trouble, your insurance will be invalid & it'll cost you a fortune.

If you say they didn't have permission, the police will expect you to press charges.

  2. I think you maybe in a sticky situation there, there are more points to consider first regarding the scenario....

Why was your friend driving your car? did you give your friend consent to drive your car? were you in the car at the time? if not the driver will not be insured for driving said vehicle.

the ideal thing to do, if you haven't already done it is visit your local police station and explain what happened and why. they will be able to explain the legal aspects of whats happened and any consequences

  3. You'll be hearing in due course, as registered keeper. They'll ask who was driving. It's an offence not to tell them.

I trust your friend had a licence and insurance to drive your car, in which case they'll be the one being "done". If, however, they didn't have the legal necessities, not only will they be done but you're likely too as well, for "causing or permitting" them to drive without . . .

It won't be DVLA who needs to know, it'll be the police.

I trust you're being genuine and not trying to blame it on some mythical friend, that one won't run and you could furthermore be done for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

  4. this is a little bit dodgey but a trick i have heard works, get your v5 document and fill in the red trader slip with a fictitious name and address saying you have sold the car to (Joe soap) lol.

Make the date of sale just before the offence, leave it 2 or 3 weeks and then fill out the other part of the v5 re registering it in your name. Your story is a car trader bought your car but you bought it back 2 weeks later, you sometimes trade in cars occasionally. Thus he must of commited the offence in question in the time he owned the car. Sorry this sounds really dodgey doesn't it but this will get you out of the sticky situation you find yourself in. lol good luck.

P.s you wouldn't get done for perverting the course of justice as someone says here, that offence is only relevant when you lie to the police not the dvla

  5. Only if the photo proves its not you or your friend owns up.

  6. well sadly you have to grass up your mate or the points are yours...,

  7. if your friend is insured on the car, and has a driving license, then you can move the points onto him. if not then you'll get them

  8. yeah one of your friends did pull the other one thats what theyll tell you
