  1. Tivo is a system that allows you to record anything available on your television as well as shows that are going to be on, and then watch them when you want. It also allows you to record a regular TV show then speed through the commercials, pause, rewind, etc.

Hd  is a signal that is given out for digital television. If you have an HD tV, then you can pick up the picture and the quality is so clear it's like you are watching something directly in the room with you. It's awesome. There are satellite companies who provide a DVR box so you have most of the benefits of the TIVO system, but the boxes aren't as smart. They aren't able to know when shows run longer, etc.

HD cable is really just a cable line which brings the digital signal to your home.

  2. tivo- pause, rewind, record live tv. this is capable because the box is always recording to a hard drive what you recently and are currently watching.

hd cable- some or most channels are displayed in HD (1080i)
