Thanks! It will be so awesome if you could tell me. Don't tell me about manners and forbidden foods, just give me examples of food they like and they're diet. Thanks!

  1. Hey

    It is great to know that someone wants to learn about an ethnic diet and culture. Hindu diet is a very wonderful diet but BEWARE it is spicy! lol...Well depends. When you talk about 'Hindu diet', you have to be specific. Because people who speak different languages and have lived in the different parts of India, (because that is where most of the hindus are). Well also depends what you want to know. Junk food, the foods that are eaten everyday, or just general. The foods that hindus eat everyday are:

    --> Roti (flat bread), vegetables, curry (made out of lentil), rice (simple or basmati which are served on special occasions. Basmati symbolizes richness and mainly rich people eat it), yogurt, pulses (chickpea, moong, etc.)

    {MAIN DIET}

    --> Khichadi (pulse and rice mixture), kadhi (yogurt with flour mixture; just like curry), vegetable, Bhakari (hard, flat bread topped with purified butter or ghee)

    {MAIN DIET}

    -->Dosas, idlis (made out of rice with fermentation), Sambhar (Lentil curry made in a different way)

    {Almost junk; From south India)

    -->Chaat, Bhel puri, pani puri, samosa, kachori, pav bhaji, (ALL JUNK)

    I hope this helps!

  2. A true Hindu diet is simply a vegetarian one, more stict versions do not consume onions or garlics.

    Daily meals consists of plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (subjis), veg curries, dals, rice, chapatis (or other Indian flatbreads), yogurt, tea...

    This diet may vary according to locations and region, many people eat non veg items such as chicken, lamb or seafood.

    The majority of Hindus will not eat beef or pork.  Beef is forbidden is not available in India.

  3. That's a tough one. Non vegetarian Hindus (e.g. from the states of Punjab, West Bengal, Orissa and Assam) would eat lentils, rice, flat bread, fish, crab, shrimp, chicken, vegetables etc. Vegetarian Hindus eat lentils, rice, flat bread and vegetables. Some orthodox vegetarian Hindus skirt onion and garlic as well.
