1. He his soft with Niedermayer & Selanne. Scotty should have decided by the 1st of July, or at least before August. Well... Teemu was UFA, so not much he could do.

2. He throws big bucks on Schneider & Big Bert. Both did not perform up to par.

3. Gives away Dustin Penner! Instead of matching 4.25M, he gives that money to injury-prone Bertuzzi.

4. Gives 6M deal to Giguere. Sure, he is a great goalie. But the Ducks had Bryzgalov, who has proved to be a top notch goaltender. As the backup they had very good prospect in Hiller. Don't see why Burke didn't trust the two younger goaltenders, when they had the best defensive pairs in the NHL?

5. Burke gives away Bryzgalov for nothing! L.A., Tampa, Phoenix were probably ready to give him a little more then what he had received.

6. He gives away McDonald, who was a playoff beast. Why not trade/waive Marchant, or Big Bert?

  1. thats a really good question

    he didnt deserve it

  2. THE GM of the year should have been HOLLAND..

    1. Let BERT, Schneids, LANG, Calder  walk

1b. Didnt give into Danny Markov, and didnt resign him

    2. Signed Rafi

    3. Brought in Drake

    4. Made no MAJOR trades at the deadline... Just Stuart.. citing chemistry!

    5. Signed McCarty (if nothing than for inspiration and leadership)

    6. Still had about 4mil in cap space and won the CUP

  3. Burke is the worst GM in the NHL other than Regier. He makes multiple mistakes and I hope Toronto gets him soon to s***w them up even more (He can do it well and then trade away 1st overall picks for useless picks or players).

  4. Burke is overrated, he walked into a gold mine at Anaheim, and now it's turning into the same mess he had in Vancouver. Guy makes me sick.

  5. I've always thought he was overrated.

Anything/body from Rhode Island is useless anyway.

He gets credit for the Sedin Twin acquisition, but where would they have gone anyway?

The guy was fired by the Whalers for crying out loud!

Now he will probably lose Corey Perry because of his assumptions and mishandlings.

  6. Ridicoulous. At least it wasn't Darcy Regier

    1) Lets Drury and Briere walk

    2) Doesn't lock Vanek up b4 July 1st for 25mil for 5yrs

    3) Doesn't add players to replace Briere and Drury

    4) Sign's a weak backup goalie in Thiabault

    5) Trades Campbell at the deadline

    6) Does nothing at the deadline to improve the team

  7. Hi

It was actually a pretty good move having Niedermayer sit out half the season. Without it they would have been in more serious salary cap then they where.  Penner isn't that bad of move long term due to the draft picks they get, and if they didn't feel ready to pay him that much.  His off season moves i don't think where that bad.  Bert takes some bad penalties but at least shows heart and protected Selanne, really no worse then Pronger in penalty area.  I think he did know what he was getting in Schneider, an experienced guy for the second pairing, not a bad move there either. The Bryzgalov move has baffled me but would not have kept him over the proven Giguere, I just don't think waivers where right unless u need him gone now.  I think Mcdonald was all about salary, this year, he was making a move for the future

These are just my opinions, but maybe some truth in them and would explain the choice  of GM of the Year.

    Thank You

  8. It's going to get much more interesting for Burke, he waived Burt yesterday, the team's owner is going to jail and the Duck are going to have to cut payroll let alone spending to the cap. I home that Kevin Lowe puts in a sheet on Perry just to see Burke's head explode.

  9. I agree w/you. Too many Burke butt kissers around for sure!

  10. Yeah, I don't get it either. It should have been Holmgren in Philly, he turned that team around big time.
