  1. Being black has nothing to do with it, and frankly, I'm a bit insulted to learn that you think it's important enough to mention in your question.  I don't know who told you that Aviation is a highly segregated industry, but whoever is teaching you that c**p is WRONG!

The rest of your question has been asked and answered on this forum HUNDREDS of times.  Why don't you use the search function at the top of the page to do some research on your own.

  2. Hey Jean if you are thinking pilot go for it, it's the best experience you can imagine and you will make great money after awhile.  The Black thing is Garbage don't let anyone feed you that, not being a citizen has more to do with any interference.  Anyway like the other guy says do a search its been answered alot but my advice to you is to get some schooling behind you, College, while you take some flying lessons for a private pilot, then join a branch of the military.  With a college education you can join as an officer pretty much and let the military train you for 1. it is very expensive to get the hours and education to fly the heavies (airliners) and 2. the airlines like to hire ex military pilots because of the experience the military will give you.  This is a good time for a career in aviation as the shortage of pilots is getting worse and worse...  Good luck!!!

  3. First I have to agree that you have one big issue you need to deal with first.....

If you ever manage to handle that, then you can focus on what needs to be done... First and foremost, you WILL need a college education.. No offense to the old timers in here, but the days of flying hot checks from one Fed District to the other to build time are LONG GONE. Simply building time is not good enough anymore. The airlines have finally caught up with the rest of the world and started to demand a four year degree. Now what you degree in is irrelevant... Obviously, an aviation science related field wouldnt hurt, but the piece of paper that represents a four year degree will work, even if its basket weaving. There are a number of expensive flight schools that can get you going as well...

But, get over the black thing first... you wont last a minute with that attitude. Then get over the dream of skipping college....

Manage that, and you can manage the rest.

  4. first, you thinking that you being black is something to overcome?, It had better be the first thing you overcome.

Second,  You have any issues with race, I don't want you to be my pilot, or employee for that matter.

Third,  My experience is not with college or the military.  I joined a flying club and talked to the instructors, which are usually always ex airline pilots.  I started flying bounced checks from one state to another, the hours (AKA- experience)  added up fast, less than one year I was flying smaller planes on the way to the big ones.

  5. Highly segregated profession?  --Yes, it is, but not in the US.
