I was on a call the other day and the patients implanted AED went off several times.

Just curious, if you are touching the patient, and it fires, can it shock you?

  1. Short answer: no.

Long answer: Voltage required for an external defibrillation is much higher than an internal defibrillation since the external leads must pass through muscle, tissue, and bone whereas internal leads are attached on the heart itself.
