so i brought home a new kitten today. I already have a one and a half year old pug. the kitten keeps hissing at my pug. i have the kitten in the bathroom with the door shut. my pug is whining wagging her tail just wanting to play. not sure how i should go about getting the kitten comfortable and not to hurt my dog.

  1. All the cat will do is hiss and if he were to scratch your dog then the dog will understand that means "Stay away"

Let them figure it out themselves--especially because the dog is showing no aggressive signs.

  2. You should keep them separated for a few days. Like keep the kitten in the bathroom, allowing them to sniff each other under the door. After a couple days, let your kitten out and see what happens. The should get use to each other.

  3. You should declaw your kitten but keeping them seperated wont help them get along slowly introduce them hold the kitten and let it smell the dog!

  4. cats and mostly kittens do act a little "defensive" initially, since they are in new unknown surroundings and unsure about their safety. dont mind that, its nothing to worry about. introduce them gradually. i would say first, rub a towel on your pug's body and leave it in the room where your kitten is. this way the kitten will get used to his "smell".

next let them sniff each other from under the doors.

the third step would e to let the bathroom door open and let the kitty wander on its own. keep the dog at bay. you wouldn't want the dog to jump in to play and scare the kitten.

keep the dog on leash when you kitten enters the room where she is. this way the kitten will slowly come and sniff her and find her smell familiar.

it'll be a lot of work for you initially but less stressful for you at the end.

P.S. NEVER EVER DE CLAW A CAT. ITS THE ONLY WAY THE CAT CAN DEFEND ITS SELF AND REMOVING THE CLAWS WILL DISTURB YOUR CAT PSYCHOLOGICALLY, AND MOST OF THE LITTER BOX PROBLEMS ARISE BECAUSE OF DE CLAWING. BESIDES DON'T YOU THINK ITS MEAN TO AMPUTATE A POOR CATS FIRST JOINT?

  5. The dog is curious, the kitten frightened.. let them visit and meet- you supervise with a quick hand on the doggie's collar.. they now have to share the same living space.. they'll acclimate better than you think.... Give it some time, it will be pure entertainment.

  6. the kitten will get used of your dog it just means the kitten is scared once the kitten realises the dog is not going to hurt her the kitten will be fine just let them go keep a close eye on them of course and let them work it out themself

  7. PLEASE don't declaw the kitten!  We have cats and a pug.  The kitten is just telling the dog to stay away because he is scared - he won't attack.  Let him out of the bathroom and he will explore the house on his own terms, and keep hissing at the pug until he loses some of his fear.  The pug will keep his distance until the cat is more friendly.  They may end up buddies or just peacefully co-exist.  They will work it out if you leave them alone with a watchful eye.

  8. You should just hold your dog and your cat every now and then  so that they can get along Hope that works

  9. Your dog craves your attention and your kitten seems to be hostile to her, which is normal in situations where cats and dogs live in the same household. Since you only got the kitten recently, give it some time to settle in and adapt with its surroundings and I am sure your dog and cat will work out with a truth eventually =)
