Someone help me stop!?

I can't stop cracking my knuckles.

I've tried in the past, but I just can't, it feels so good!

As a result through the years, my knuckles are big/fat around the middle of my fingers and they look gross and swollen.

What can I do? I'm 14, by the way.

  1. From experience....PLEASE STOP! It's hard,I know.I have cracked my knuckles since my teen years too. I'm 34 now and I can bend my fingers and they will crack on their own.. The use of my hands has gone way downhill.Simple things like mashing potatoes, mixing cookie dough, carrying trays at work, even pouring coffee, my hand stays that  same form..Arthritis has kicked in and it will only get worse!  Find a way tht will work for you and have the will power to see it through.

    good luck

  2. This is what I did to a friend, who is also 14 and always cracks her knuckles.  Take a rubber band and use it as a "bracelet" and every time you have the urge to crack your knuckles, pull the rubber band as far as you can and let go.  It kinda hurts, but it gets you to stop.

*Radmon Fact: it takes 21 times of doing something to make it a habit.

  3. Give yourself a set amount of time to stop. Start off by making a vow to not crack your knuckles for the day and then keep increasing the time frame.

Reward yourself for refraining. If you go a week without cracking your knuckles, promise to buy yourself a treat.

Wear a rubber band around your wrist. Every time that you feel the urge to crack your knuckles, snap the band. It should train your mind to associate knuckle cracking with pain.

Consider hypnosis. Contact a hypnotist to see if they can help you stop the bad habit of knuckle cracking.

Perform hand stretches. Stretching your fingers and hand will likely ease the urge that you need to crack your knuckles.

Take a calcium supplement. Many people crack their knuckles because of joint discomfort. Getting enough calcium will help build and repair your joints.

  4. I had a friend who did this for herself:

She would crack only 9 fingers.

    After a time, she'd do only 8.

    Then, 7, and so on.

Eventually she said, holding up her one pinky, "now I only do this one!"

    She got down to ONE!

    Then she quit.

  5. heh heh i have the same problem.. but ive tend to do it less because its prooven that cracking youknuckleses can lead tarthritisis in thfutureer, sometimes i do it just to freak my bro out, hope you can figure something out .
