Someone hit my car now what do i do?

someone backed into my car. i have full coverage. they have insurance too. it happed this morning. what should i do???

  1. You can either file a claim against your own collision coverage or file a claim directly against the other party's liability coverage.  

    If you go against your own collision coverage, you may have to pay your deductible.(It depends how your policy was written).  If you pay the deductible, your insurance company will subrogate for what they paid you and the deductible.   It could take a few months to recover the monies paid out.

    If you have an agent, your agent can file the claim on your behalf.  Otherwise, do it yourself.  Just call.  It is a rather simple process.


  2. Unless you want to deal directly with the other driver and work it out between the two of you, file a police report.  Since he was at fault, his insurance should be paying.

  3. Since the other driver is at fault you file a claim against the other drivers insurance, make sure you have their information. I would inform your own insurance just so they are aware. You should have no expense for this since the laibility is all on the other driver.

  4. I think I'd be calling the police or their insurance company instead of asking questions here.

  5. report it, get a police report and contact your insurance company.
