Question:

Someone is Stealing My Identity??

I recently got into an issue with PayPal and they wanted me to verify my SSN. So I faxed them my SSN card and my Driver's License. However, they told me my SSN was coming up as someone else. Could someone be stealing my identity? How can I find out? What should I do? Does it matter than I just turned 18 and don't have any credit? HELP!

  1. I would immediately contact all three credit companies and put them on alert.

Protect  your SS number like it is gold. It is to someone else.

  2. buy id insurance

  3. First request your free credit reports from annualcreditreport.com or call them toll free @ 1-877-322-8228 for all 3 free reports. Then put the account on fraud alert through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-800-680-7289. They will notify the other to bureaus for you. It has to be renewed every 90 days. Social Security also has a fraud dept. Their toll free # 1-800-269-0271. Better to be safe than sorry later.

  4. First, go get your free copy of your credit report from the 3 major credit reporting agencies.

    www.annualcreditreport.com

Then, if there is anything on those reports that does not belong to you, you need to start disputing everything immediately.

You will probably want to put a fraud alert on your files immediately.  You can go to this website for more info:

    Good luck to you.
