  1. Well that may be true an a place like California that was mostly an empty desert before or Nevada.  Maybe more trees but less wild or usefull trees.

  2. Interesting, its true that when families decided to build a home in a place where trees were never present, they often plant . However, the rate at which companies clear cut far out weighs any effect that a family may have when planting trees around their household.

  3. Who-ever it is, you should indeed slap them with a glove. To say that...HA!

There used to be trees upon trees before Columbus. Then everyone came and cut down trees for living space. Sure we stopped disease, but that was only a smudge on the number of trees we have today. We cut down more than our fair share of trees just for living space, furniture, industry, TOOTH PICKS(????) and other items. Today the tree condition is worse than ever. Take consideration to look at the endangered species in the US because of deforestation. There certainly were more trees then than there are now. Really consider on what this guy is trying to telling you.

  4. Hard to answer since nobody counted trees back then to get an exact count.

It is possible though.    For example, back then if a wildfire started, it would burn and burn and burn.   Nowadays we stop wildfires as soon as possible.   Over time the # of trees in those forests built up.

Also consider that the midwest had been open prarie back then (again partly due to natural wildfires).   Today it's farmland including trees (which may have fruit).  We also drained florida's swamps to create massive citrus groves, i.e orange and lemon trees.

Consider we've also added lots of invasive species of trees which have no natural diseases or predators to slow them down.   In olden times, the forest would be limited by bug infestation or tree disease.    Now we have these trees (in my area the Empress and Mimosa are examples) that thrive unabated.

  5. I would say someone is living in a dream world. While it's true that the majority of companies harvesting trees now plant a tree for everyone taken, there was a time when millions of acres of land were stripped bare of trees. There has not been enough time since that occurred for the trees to re-populate.

Also wood is one of our major exports and where there is money, ecological concerns take a back seat.

  6. that someone sounds like an economist.

    quite laughable.
