  1. Based on their history, I think that label is appropriate and correct.

  2. While Syria has aided organizations such as Hezbollah, and various subdivisions of the PLO, Syria has otherwise not been directly engaged in terrorism. Allegedly, Syria has used the Bekaa Valley for terrorist training, but since the Bekaa is a densely populated agricultural area, these accusations are largely unsubstantiated.

The justification in calling Syria a "terrorist state" relies heavily on your definition of what makes a state "terrorist". If it is simply offering minimal financial support, as Syria has been accused of doing, then the US would also be classified as a "terrorist state" for its support of the Mujahideen during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, or the Batistiano (supporters of the deposed Cuban president Batista) insurgency of the late 50s and early 60s.

If one was to define a "terrorist" state by the state's compliance with the US (at it often is), then Syria would be a terrorist state. However, one must question wether that method of definition is fair. If one were to claim that Syria was evil because it was uncooperative with the US, then logically one would have to equate the US with being a bastion of all that is good and just (which history proves otherwise). In reality, Syria has one of the lowest crime rates on earth, as opposed to the US which ironically claims the moral high ground over so-called "rogue states".

This brings us to the last possible way to define Syria as terrorist state- religious fundamentalism. While Syria has often been accused of being a "radical Islamist state", these accusations are usually the results of paranoia and ignorance. Syria's government is secular and Syria has the second largest Christian population in the Middle East. Syria's four main religions- Islam, Christianity, and Judaism (yes, there are Syrian Jews), and Druze- have experienced nearly no conflict since Syria's liberation from the French. In fact, Syria very probably has a higher religious tolerance than the US does (take the anti-Catholic actions of Klu Klux Klan, for example).

In short, it would be impossible to classify Syria as a terrorist state without also classifying the US in the same category.

  3. They have trained and supported terrorists and terrorist organizations (Hezbollah, Abu Nidal, PLO, et al) since the 1980's... particularly up in the Bekka Valley.

They seized control of the Lebanese government (and a fair portion of their country), and refused to relinquish control when directed by the UN.

They serve as a port-of-access for foreign fighters (terrorists) into Chechnya and Iraq in the 21st Century.

There are also strong suggestions they took control of Iraqs special weapons programs and materials.

  4. Syria is a safe haven for multiple terrorist groups, and allows outside funding to reach the groups, ie: Iran to Hezbollah.  They are not terrorists themselves, but are about as close as you can get.  They are playing with fire.  Also, people wonder where Saddam's WMD's went...  they went to the Bekaa Valley 6 weeks prior to the invasion.  Much info supports that.  I wrote a whole research paper on it.  Syria is definately rogue at the least.

  5. thats not nice its not the country that makes the terrorist its the terrorist. its like saying every arabic person is wene not every one is.

  6. They are long-standing supporters of several terrorist groups, the most notably being Hezbollah, of whom they've actually made part of their political system.  There has been a huge training facility for terrorists in the Bekka Valley for decades.

  7. I agree. It is a well known fact Syria funds and protects terrorists.

  8. If the doctrine of "anticipatory defense" (that the US used to invade Iraq) applies universally, then Syria has the right to attack the US. Of course this is ridiculous, but the justification to invade Iraq was just as ridiculous. Article 51 does not apply and consequently the US is guilty of aggression. It is also guilty of war crimes for deliberately attacking civilian targets such as Faluja that opposing forces had vacated well before it was destroyed by bombing.

In comparison to the US, Syria is a peaceful and law abiding country. The US repeatedly uses its military superiority to intimidate, threaten, and attack defenseless countries. It uses economic sanctions to weaken countries. It is estimated that the US led economic sanctions led to the deaths of 500,000 children prior to the second attack. To this very day, Iraq suffers from a lack of clean drinking water, broken sewage treatment, and no medical treatment, facilities, or personnel.

The US is the biggest bully and biggest terrorist nation in the world. It was convicted by the World Court in the Hague for terrorism (aggression) against Nicaragua.

  9. The graetest terrorist countyr is USA followed by UK.

  10. No.. why for helping Lebanon when Israel attached 2006...I was in Syria when this happened . I saw every citizen  Syrian person is helping and even sharing their own homes for the Lebanese who came.
